Georgetown is pleased to roll out many changes and enhancements to the employee benefits package in 2014. We are confident these changes will be valuable to you, we also understand that change can be stressful. The good news is, the Office of Faculty and Staff Benefits is here to help! In an effort to make this as simple and stress-free as possible, we’ll be doing some extra Open Enrollment outreach through the GUWellness blog, starting today with the Open Enrollment Top 10. As the name suggests, this is the reader’s digest version of changes and new additions for benefits in 2014. If you would like to dig deeper on any of these items, please refer to the 2014 Interactive Benefits Guide and our website for more details.

  1. New Health Plan: CareFirst BlueChoice Advantage CDHP with HSA
    The CareFirst BlueChoice Advantage Consumer Directed Health Plan with Health Savings Account puts you in control of your health care. In exchange for having a higher deductible, you’ll pay significantly lower premiums and have access to a Health Savings Account, which let’s you save pre-tax dollars to pay for healthcare expenses (including that big deductible). Different from a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), HSAs do not expire at the end of the year. Any money remaining in your HSA at the end of the year will roll over to the next; you can even choose to invest your account to earn dividends, just like your 403(b). The best part? You are completely vested from day one, meaning that account is yours to keep and use for qualified medical expenses, even after you leave Georgetown. The HSA will be administered by ConnectYourCare, giving you access to rich online tools and 24-hour phone support to help better manage your health care and spending. One thing to note: If you choose to participate in this plan, you will not be able to enroll in a Health Care Reimbursement Account (FSA), and special rules apply to those with an FSA balance remaining at the end of 2013.   1. New FSA Vendor: Connect Your Care
    We are pleased to introduce Connect Your Care as the new Flexible Spending Account vendor for 2014. This change gives you 24-hour phone support as well as a bevy of online tools and resources to better manage your claims. All FSA participants will get a new debit card prior to January 1, 2014. If you have an FSA in 2013, you are eligible to use any remaining funds with Colonial Healthcare through the grace period ending March 15, 2014, however you must pay out of pocket and submit a claim form and receipt for reimbursement for any claims incurred after January 1, 2014.

  1. New CareFirst ID Cards & Pharmacy Provider
    Beginning January 1, 2014, CareFirst will be switching their pharmacy benefit provider from ARGUS/Walgreens to CVS/Caremark. As a result, all CareFirst members will receive a new ID card prior to January 1. Once received, please destroy your old ID card.   1. Wellness Coaching from Health Advocate
    Starting October 1, 2013, active, benefits eligible employees (along with their spouse and dependent children over age 18) have unlimited access to a Personal Wellness Coach through Health Advocate. Your coach can help you set specific goals to get fit, lose weight or better manage a chronic condition and help you stay motivated! Wellness Coaching has many features designed to keep you engaged and on track. Learn more online or call Health Advocate today to get started!

  2. Medical Bill Saver from Health Advocate
    Effective October 1, 2013, this new feature takes Health Advocate’s Core Advocacy benefit one step further. Benefits-eligible employees and retirees, their dependents, parents and parents-in-law have access to skilled negotiators who can help lower the cost of non-covered medical and dental procedures for bills over $400.   1. CRX International Mail Order Prescription Drug Plan
    For UnitedHealthCare PPO and CareFirst POS Members
    Available to participants in our self-funded medical plans, CRX International offers a safe, cost effective alternative to your current options for many brand name maintenance medications. If you participate in this program, you will have a $0 copay for brand name maintenance medications included in the CRX formulary. For more information, contact CRX International at 1-866-488-7874.

  1. Plan Design Changes for CareFirst POS & Kaiser Permanente HMO
    Both the Kaiser Signature HMO and CareFirst BlueChoice Advantage POS members will experience some changes to their copays in 2014. Refer to the Medical and Prescription Drug tables on pages 6-7 of the Open Enrollment Kit mailed to your home address or click here for more details.

  1. Aetna PPO No Longer Available in 2014
    Those currently enrolled in the Aetna medical plan will need to choose a new medical plan during Open Enrollment. For those who don’t make any changes through GMS during this time frame, you’ll be defaulted into the CareFirst BlueChoice Advantage POS plan under the same coverage tier.     For a little extra help with your Open Enrollment elections, we’ve scheduled a number of Benefits Q&A sessions, special CareFirst BlueChoice Advantage CDHP with HSA events, Benefits Brown Bags with your Chief Benefits Officer, Charles DeSantis and even one-on-one appointment slots.   1. GUWellness Fairs & Third Annual 5K
    It’s that time of year again! The GUWellness Fairs are coming up along with the Third Annual GUWellness 5K. While the big event is October 25th on the main campus, we’ll be packing up the fair (with Benefits vendors & massage therapists in tow) and hitting Wisconsin Avenue and Downtown campuses.
