Many Georgetowners already know about the Mind-Body Connection, but what about the mouth-body connection?
Studies show that what goes on between your teeth is a good indication of your overall health. Diseases like leukemia, diabetes, heart and kidney disease and certain cancers have early warning signs that manifest in your mouth. It’s recommended that you see a dentist for an exam and cleaning twice a year to both remove plaque and tartar and keep an eye out for these oral symptoms. It works the other way too; poor oral hygiene can lead to infection, which could potentially spread to your heart or other major organs, not to mention the physical discomfort in your gums and mouth.
