Father Schemel's Monthly Musing: Let Your Imagination Soar

Musing, as you may recall, is the process of taking a topic or idea into one’s imagination. Letting it whirl around until it spirals out of the created world and into the realm of the spirit.

It’s like a rocket that must reach a certain velocity to escape the earth’s gravitational pull.

Imagine this: The time before time. Before the earth began to revolve around the sun. The scene: The Holy Trinity is sitting around. Chatting.

Father:
I have been thinking. We have so much love. We should share it.

Holy Spirit/Son:
Yes! What are you thinking?

Father:
We could create human beings. We could share our love them and they would then be free to share our love with each other and with us.

Holy Spirit:
Hmmmm…I don’t know if that’s such a great idea. Since love must be freely exchanged, there would be some who might not choose it. What would happn to them?

Son:
Oh Father! I think it’s a great idea to have all these people loving us and one another. Don’t worry about those who choose not to love. I’ve got a plan!

Father:
What is it?

Spirit:
Super. Tell us!

Son:
I’ll become one of them.

Father/Spirit:
(gasp)

Son:
Yes, I’ll show them what love is and I will supply my love wherever love is lacking.

Spirit:
Well, that will call for a great sacrifice on your part.

Father:
Are you sure you’re willing to do that?

Son:
Yes. Absolutely. Send me.

At this moment, creation begins with a big bang.

End of scene.

When the earth had traveled around the sun a determined number of times, God made himself known to the world as an infant. We call that moment Christmas. We receive this gift of infinite love with great joy. We express this joy and share this love with one another through songs and decorations and the giving of gifts.

During this Christmas season allow your self to receive and give love. And, while you’re at it, allow yourself to do a little musing. Who knows where it might take you.
